Fight, Flight, Freeze or Fawn.

When we learn about The Fight or Flight response, we learn it in the basic form of ‘if you encounter a bear in the wild’… what we don’t learn is every day stressors can trigger a trauma response, particularly when we are met with repeated instances of potentially traumatic events.

Writing this was something I was so passionate about, especially after I started reading @thebodykeepsthescore… There are so many aspects of every response that I not only have seen myself living in but also those around me. Identifying that you may be living in a trauma response, at least for me, was the first step to starting to heal.

When your whole life is impacted by living in this trauma, it is hard to find enjoyment in everyday things, the little things. It’s hard to find motivation, to see yourself as anything other than the state you’re functioning in, and thinking to yourself ‘Well this is it, this is how we do life now.’

But it’s important to remember, that can change.
It is equally as important to identify the responses other individuals you work with, may also be living in. To not take their responses personally and to remember, they too may be ‘stuck’.

Be kind to yourself and others 🌸
